Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify relevant headline features: private studios have the largest share, college-based studios the smallest, and ballet and modern are the leading styles for the younger and older groups respectively. These comparisons match the chart. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it gives no figures for the dance styles and does not report the remaining location shares (24% for school halls and 18% for community halls and other venues). The final sentence stops after “While schools halls,” leaving an important comparison unfinished. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, which limits the detail and coverage possible. Include a complete overview and select key figures from both charts to support it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an introduction, an overview, and a detail paragraph, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On one hand” signal the intended structure. However, progression is weak because the detail paragraph ends abruptly at “While schools halls,” and the second chart is not developed after the overview. The contrast in “in contrast to” is also not clearly completed, while “On one hand” suggests a corresponding “on the other hand” that never appears. These gaps make the relationships between points difficult to follow. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the location data and age-group comparisons, and connect each comparison explicitly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “private studios,” “college-based studios,” and “dance style,” so the topic is generally clear. There is also an attempt to vary wording with “maximum share” and “most favourite.” However, the range is limited, and several choices or spelling errors reduce precision: “propotion” is misspelled, “balletm” appears to be a typing error, and “most trending” is not a natural collocation for describing chart popularity. “Australian used as location” is also unclear as a description of the data. Aim for accurate, neutral chart language such as “accounted for,” “the largest proportion,” and “was the most popular style.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and more complex comparisons, for example, “Ballet is the most trending dance style among under 11 age student in contrast to students 11-16 modern style is most favourite.” However, this sentence has faulty structure: the two groups are not clearly joined, and the comparison lacks a clear grammatical pattern. Other errors include “location of dance classes” after “proportion,” missing articles in “among under 11 age student,” and the incomplete clause beginning “While schools halls.” Sentence boundaries and spacing are also inconsistent. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships difficult to understand. Practise complete comparison structures, such as “Whereas ballet leads among under-11s, modern is most popular among 11–16-year-olds,” and check articles, plurals, and punctuation.
