Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main location pattern accurately: private studios are the largest category at 48%, while college-based studios are the smallest at 10%, and you include the other two percentages. You also compare the age groups across the dance styles. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: the chart is about young people, not adults, and ballet is not simply high for children and low for adults; the figures are 600 and 300. Some details are misreported, including under-11 tap (about 450, not 480) and under-11 ballet (about 600, not 610). The response is also 143 words, below the 150-word minimum. Develop a clearer overview and report the age groups and figures precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to location details and then dance types. This gives the reader a general route through the information. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. Phrases such as “Follow a similar parttern” and “Types of dance classes” do not clearly connect the comparisons, and “In contrast” introduces an unclear relationship between the two charts. The final paragraph lists figures but does not consistently make the comparisons explicit. Use clear topic sentences and linking language such as “By comparison” or “whereas,” and organise each age-group comparison in a consistent order. This would make the overall arrangement more coherent and reduce the impression of disconnected points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “private studios,” “school halls,” and “approximately,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. For example, “high amount” and “low amount of participants” are not natural ways to describe chart figures; “the highest proportion of the private studios” is also awkward. There are noticeable spelling errors, including “parttern,” “bellet,” and “approximetly,” as well as “particpints.” Use precise terms such as “number of students” for the bar-chart values and “share” or “proportion” for percentages. More accurate collocations and spelling would make the report clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few longer structures, such as “In contrast, types of dance classes…” and “Similarly, in the modern class…,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and several are incomplete or inaccurately formed. For example, “Overall, chart shows…” is missing an article, while “the highest proportion of private studios is 48% and the school halls… is 24%” has an unclear subject–verb relationship. The sentence beginning “Follow a similar…” is also not a complete, well-formed comparison. Articles, sentence structure, and agreement errors recur and sometimes make the intended meaning harder to follow. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use parallel structures when comparing the two age groups.
