Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and identify several important features: private studios are the largest location category at 48%, college-based studios are the smallest at 10%, and ballet is strongest among children under 11. However, some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. The 11–16 group is not described as adults, and modern classes for this group are about 520 students rather than 550. The overview also says modern is the most popular for ages 11–16, but does not mention that ballet is the least popular for this group or that modern is least popular among under-11s. Your account of tap as popular in both groups is relevant, but would be stronger with the figures and a clearer comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for location and class types. This helps the reader follow the two charts. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to track, and linking words are used mechanically. For example, the location paragraph repeats “while” to connect several figures, while “Firstly” and “Secondly” do little to show the relationships between the data. The final paragraph combines several comparisons without a clear order, and “tap is popular between both class” does not specify how the groups compare. Grouping the age-group figures by dance type, and using clearer comparisons such as “whereas” or “by contrast,” would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “private studios,” “school halls,” “popular,” and “age group,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the report less precise. Repeated forms such as “famouse” and “popular” do not distinguish clearly between the largest and smallest figures; “adults” is also an inaccurate label for the 11–16 group. Phrases such as “people reached that location” and “classes are divaide” are not natural in this context. Use precise chart language such as “students attended,” “accounted for,” and “the most/least popular,” and check spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example the sentence comparing private studios with college-based studios. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction sometimes make the relationships between ideas hard to follow. Examples include “The charts gives,” “four types location … are available,” and “three types of dance classes are divide.” The sentence beginning “Overall” also contains several ideas joined without clear grammatical structure. Practise accurate basic patterns first, such as “The charts give information,” “There are four locations,” and “Ballet is most popular among under-11s,” then add comparisons using correctly formed clauses.
