Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and give a clear overview: private studios account for the largest share, college-based studios the smallest, and ballet and modern show contrasting age-group patterns. Most figures are accurately reported, including the location percentages and the approximate student numbers. The comparison that ballet is more popular among under-11s and modern among 11–16-year-olds is well grounded. This is a strong response to the task, though the overview could be more precise: “private studios are famous for all age group” is unclear and overgeneralises, since the pie chart gives locations overall rather than by age. You could also highlight that tap numbers are relatively similar across the two groups. More selective, precise comparisons would make the summary more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, then separate discussion of the pie chart and bar chart. This makes the two sources easy to follow, and transitions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore,” and “In contrast” help signal relationships. However, some linking is mechanical or unclear. For example, “About pie chart” and “In contrast, from bar chart” are awkward openings, while “where” in the ballet comparison does not clearly connect the figures. The overview also combines location and age-group findings in one sentence, making its message less smooth. Use clearer topic sentences and connect comparisons directly—for example, state that under-11s outnumber older students in ballet, whereas the reverse is true for modern. This would strengthen progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough task-related vocabulary to report the charts, including “private studios,” “school halls,” “age group,” and “popular.” There are also attempts at more varied wording, such as “depicts” and “category.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes make the meaning less clear: “famous” does not mean commonly used here, “less useable” is not suitable for describing a location’s share, and “visited area” is an awkward collocation. “Helds” and “positon” also show problems with word form and spelling. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, such as “account for,” “the least common location,” and “students attended classes.” This would make the vocabulary more accurate and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including contrasts with “while” and “although,” and the main comparisons are generally understandable. However, grammatical control is uneven, and errors occur in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “three different category of dance classes ballet, tap modern” needs plural agreement and clearer punctuation; “48% people attends” has an incorrect verb form and missing grammatical link; and “for 11-16 ages people” is not a well-formed noun phrase. Several sentences begin with lowercase letters after full stops, and commas are often placed where a full stop or clearer clause structure is needed. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then build complex comparisons around them.
