Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and identify the main location feature: private studios account for the largest share, while college-based studios have the smallest. You also report several age-group figures, including the contrast in ballet and modern. However, some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: tap is about 450 students under 11 and 420 aged 11–16, not “the other 400,” and the overview’s claim that the largest number of students enrolled in ballet overlooks that modern is highest for the older group. The overview also focuses on ballet rather than summarising the broader age-group pattern. The response addresses the task, but some key features are less fully and accurately presented than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to the pie chart, then the age-group graph, and finally an overall statement. This makes the two sources easy to distinguish. However, the overview comes at the end, so the reader encounters detailed figures before the main patterns are summarised. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “while,” and the long graph paragraph combines several comparisons without clear separation. References such as “the remaining age” and “the other 400 students” are not fully clear. Put a concise overview after the introduction, then group the age comparisons more deliberately and use precise references to improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the subject, including “private studios,” “school halls,” “age group,” and “enrolled.” However, the range is limited by repeated general terms such as “represents,” “students,” and “dance,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate. For example, “holds major 48 percent of area” does not naturally describe a chart share, while “number of childrens” and “ballot type of dance” are unsuitable or incorrect forms. Spelling errors such as “commmunity” also reduce accuracy. Use precise reporting language and check word forms: describe percentages as “accounting for” a share, and use “the number of students” or “ballet classes.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the main message is generally understandable. However, some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation make parts awkward. For instance, “The chart and graph illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “The tap dance have” repeats this problem. The sentence beginning “The private studios holds…” also has faulty agreement and an unclear construction. Several sentences run together, such as the location description ending “10 percent. While…,” and spacing after full stops is inconsistent. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and divide long comparisons into complete sentences; this will make your range of structures clearer and more controlled.
