Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover both charts and report the main location proportions, correctly identifying private studios as the most common venue (48%) and college-based studios as the least common (10%). You also include the figures for all three dance styles in both age groups, and these are broadly consistent with the chart. However, the overview is unclear and does not summarise the key contrast between age groups: under-11s favour ballet, whereas 11–16-year-olds favour modern dance. The opening claim that the two age groups are the main feature is not an overview of the data. Some comparisons are left implicit, and the location figures are not all clearly set against one another. State the main patterns directly, then support them with selected figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, a general paragraph, and separate discussion of locations and dance types. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “On the other hand” signal a shift. However, progression is not consistently clear. The overview sentence, “Overall, discussing the information reporting and main features,” does not communicate a meaningful point, while the age-group explanation interrupts the location summary. The repeated “other group” phrasing also makes comparisons harder to follow, and several sentences are joined with full stops or “and” in ways that create choppy progression. Group the location data together, then compare the age groups by dance style, using clear references such as “by contrast” and “respectively” accurately.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough task-related vocabulary to identify the chart categories, including “private studios,” “school halls,” “Ballet,” “Tap,” and “Modern.” Some wording also attempts to describe proportions and participation. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, sometimes making the meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “the information at location and categories” and “participants which attending the class” are not natural ways to describe the charts, and “Few little bit” is unclear. Spelling and word-form errors such as “partcipant” and “attendent” are also noticeable. Use precise reporting language consistently, such as “the proportion of students attending” and “the number of participants,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can usually identify the figures being reported. However, grammatical control is weak and errors occur throughout, including in basic sentence patterns. Examples include “young person … are recently participation,” “participants which attending,” and “Ballet dance classes attendent of students age is 11 year at numbers of students 600.” These show problems with agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. Punctuation also creates fragments, as in “and age is 11 years. and other group…”. Build accurate simple sentences first, then add comparisons using controlled clauses—for example, “Among under-11s, 600 students take ballet, compared with 300 in the older group.” Check each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb.
