Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two chart topics and report several location figures accurately, including private studios at 48%, college-based studios at 10%, school halls at 24% and community halls at 18%. However, the response only partially covers the task: the bar chart is barely described, and the overview contains a factual error when it says ballet and modern for under-11s are both at 300; ballet is about 600, while modern is about 300. You also omit the key age-group contrasts in tap and modern. The response is 133 words, below the required 150, which contributes to the limited development. Add a concise overview and compare all three dance types across the two age groups, using the chart’s approximate figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and further details about the location chart. However, progression is weak because the location figures are repeated in both the overview and the next paragraph, while the bar-chart information is left almost entirely undeveloped. The final paragraph is an incomplete fragment of reporting rather than a developed comparison. Linking words such as “Overall” and “Whereas” show an attempt to connect ideas, but “Whereas” is repeatedly used without a clear contrast, and “However” is joined awkwardly to the following sentence. Organise the response into an introduction, a clear overview, and focused detail paragraphs, grouping related comparisons and avoiding repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “pie chart,” “bar graph,” “age group,” “private studios” and “school halls,” so the topic is generally clear. The range is limited, though, and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural: “highest of all in location setup,” “private sector … of all the classes setups,” and “same number of students” make the description less precise. “College bases studios” also shows an inaccurate form. Use standard chart-reporting collocations and vary the language for proportions and comparisons, such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “was equal to.” Check that each term describes the chart accurately; for example, these are locations, not “classes setups.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some complex linking, but sentence structures are limited and errors occur frequently enough to make parts awkward. In the opening, “The pie chart illustrate” and “the bar graph illustrate” have subject–verb agreement errors, while “different age group of student” has number and article problems. The sentence ending “are attending currently” is also structurally unclear. In the overview, “private studios is” and “college based studios is lowest” repeat agreement problems, and punctuation is inconsistent in forms such as “However,Ballet” and “48%,Whereas.” Aim for accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled comparisons. For example: “Private studios account for the largest share, at 48%, while college-based studios account for the smallest, at 10%.”
