Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 2.5

The response identifies the broad subject of the visuals and notes that the bar chart compares two age groups across ballet, tap and modern dance. However, it does not report any figures or meaningful comparisons, and the overview is left unfinished at “Overall, It”. The location chart’s main feature—that private studios account for the largest share, while college-based studios have the smallest—is not mentioned, nor are the differences between age groups in dance preferences. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the task largely unaddressed. To improve, complete a clear overview and select key figures and contrasts from both charts, rather than only introducing their topics.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the first sentence introduces the charts, and the next refers to the age-group comparison. This gives the reader a limited sense of the topic. However, the response stops after the incomplete transition “Overall, It”, so there is no developed progression, paragraph structure, or conclusion. The semicolon in “such as; ballet” also interrupts the sentence rather than helping connect ideas. A complete report should use a clear introduction, an overview, and one or more paragraphs grouping the main data, with simple links such as “By contrast” or “Regarding the age groups” used to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “dance”, “ballet”, “tap”, “modern” and “age group”, so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the vocabulary is limited and some phrases are imprecise for describing charts: “information of young people in terms of several parts” does not clearly convey what the visuals show, and “comparison of number” is not a natural expression. “Austrailia” is also misspelled. Use more precise chart language, such as “the proportion of classes held at each venue” and “the number of students in each age group”. This would make the description clearer and more appropriate to an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response shows some control of basic sentence construction: “There is also a comparison…” is a complete sentence, and the opening sentence attempts to introduce more than one aspect of the visuals. However, the range is narrow, and the unfinished “Overall, It” leaves the response without a complete final clause. The phrase “comparison of number in two age group” also has errors in number and article use; a clearer form would be “a comparison of the numbers in the two age groups”. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “Overall, It”, and punctuation around the list is faulty. Practise complete overview sentences and accurate plural forms, articles and punctuation.
