Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the main location feature correctly: private studios are the most common venue, at 48%. You also attempt to compare dance preferences by age, noting that ballet is popular among under-11s and modern among 11–16-year-olds. However, the latter comparison is inaccurate: modern is the largest category for older students, but ballet is also higher among under-11s than among older students. More importantly, the response stops before reporting the location figures or the other dance-class comparisons, so the task is addressed only minimally. At 65 words, it is also well below the required 150. To improve, complete the summary with the key percentages and comparisons from both charts, supported by accurate figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview beginning with “Overall,” and then a paragraph intended to discuss location. This gives the reader a recognisable starting structure. However, the final line, “Regarding the location of dance classes,” is unfinished, and the response ends without developing that section or providing a conclusion. As a result, the information does not progress through a complete, coherent summary. The transition from the overview to the location discussion is also not followed by any supporting details. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and the main comparisons, and ensure each paragraph develops the point introduced.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “location,” “dance classes,” “private studios,” “Ballet,” and “modern,” so the topic is generally clear. There is also an attempt to describe ranking with “the largest number.” However, the range is limited, and several phrases are awkward or imprecise, such as “the highest used location” and “the modern type classes.” The spelling “childer” is also incorrect. These choices make the description less natural and reduce precision, although the intended meaning is mostly recoverable. Build a wider set of chart-description phrases, such as “accounted for,” “was the most popular,” and “the proportion of students,” and check spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You produce several short sentences that communicate the general topic, and the use of “However” shows an attempt to connect contrasting information. There is also a basic overview structure. However, grammatical control is uneven: “private studios by far the highest used location” is missing a verb, while “children under 11 years age” lacks the necessary possessive construction and article. In “the largest number of people age category 11-16 years attend,” the noun phrase is not formed correctly, and the sentence structure is difficult to follow. Most sentences rely on simple patterns, with little evidence of a wider range. Practise complete comparative sentences, for example, “Private studios were the most popular venue, accounting for 48% of classes.”
