Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and identify several important features: private studios are the largest location category, college-based studios the smallest, ballet is most popular among under-11s, and modern is strongest among 11–16-year-olds. The comparisons are broadly consistent with the data, including the close tap figures. This meets the task well, with some evidence of the fuller overview expected at the next level. However, the overview is difficult to interpret and says ballet is the “Top trend” without clearly distinguishing the age groups; it also refers to modern classes vaguely. The location paragraph omits the 18% community-halls figure, and the dance comparisons would be clearer with approximate student numbers rather than “percentage.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for location and dance types. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement. Some progression is also signalled by phrases such as “To begin with” and “Following with.” However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. The overview’s “On one hand … where on other hand” construction does not establish a clear contrast, and the long opening sentence in the final paragraph combines several points without a clear sequence. Capitalisation after full stops is inconsistent, and “but for The Tap dance” interrupts the flow. Use shorter, focused comparisons and link each age group directly to its figures to make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “location,” “age groups,” and “attending,” and you attempt more descriptive expressions such as “top position” and “large portion.” However, inaccurate word choice and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less precise. For example, “the Top trend in Ballet” is not a natural way to describe the highest figure, while “percentage” is incorrectly used for the student counts in the bar chart. There are also spelling errors, including “illustarte,” “mordern,” and “intrested.” Aim for precise chart language such as “number of students,” “accounted for,” and “was most popular,” and proofread spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example the comparison beginning “but still kids ratio is higher.” This shows some range, but complex sentences are often faulty, and errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. The overview lacks clear sentence boundaries and a complete grammatical structure (“Overall On one hand…”), while “the attending ratio for above higher secondary students is higher” has an unclear comparison structure. Articles, agreement, and punctuation also need attention, as in “the Location of dance classes shows highest proportion” and the lower-case “but” after a full stop. Build shorter sentences first, then combine them with accurate clauses and consistent punctuation.
