Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main location pattern accurately: private studios have the largest share, and you report the 18% and 10% figures for community halls and college-based studios. You also make relevant age-group comparisons for ballet and tap. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: the largest number is not in ballet overall, since under-11 ballet is about 600 but 11–16 modern is about 520, and the chart shows modern is the least popular style among under-11s. The location description also confuses classes with students. The response addresses the task only partially, with several key features omitted or unclear, and it is 19 words below the required minimum. Include the modern figures and describe the location percentages precisely to develop the summary more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs that report details. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and transitions such as “Overall,” “First of all,” and “In contrast” help signal shifts. However, the progression is not always clear within the detail paragraphs. For example, the location figures are presented in an order that does not make the comparison especially easy to follow, and “Moreover” introduces a point that is not clearly connected to the preceding one. The final paragraph ends after the tap comparison, without covering modern or providing a concluding comparison. Group the location data together and then compare all three dance styles by age group, using linking phrases to show contrasts accurately.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentages,” “age group,” “participate,” and “proportion,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There is some attempt to vary wording, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing chart data. For instance, “young people like in private studios” does not clearly express that 48% of classes take place there, while “maximum numbers” and “less prefered ballet” are awkward. Spelling errors such as “collage-based” and “prefered” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise reporting verbs and collocations, such as “account for,” “record,” and “the number of students taking ballet,” and use the chart’s categories consistently rather than describing preferences that the data do not directly measure.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the opening sentence communicates the two chart topics. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. In “young individuals and bar graph represents,” the article is missing before “bar graph”; “students who are involve” needs a correct participle and agreement; and “the maximum numbers of young people are engage” has errors in both number and verb form. The sentence beginning “around 600 students and they are in under 11” is also awkwardly joined and lacks a clear grammatical structure. These errors sometimes make the intended comparison harder to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build comparisons in complete clauses, for example, “About 600 children under 11 take ballet, compared with 300 students aged 11–16.”
