Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify both visuals and give an overview, noting that private studios are the most common location and that college-based studios are the least common. You also correctly identify ballet as the leading choice for children under 11. However, the overview misreports the 11–16 group: modern is not the most popular dance for this age group; ballet is lower, while modern is highest, so this comparison is correct, but it needs supporting figures. More importantly, the response is only 78 words, below the required 150, and it omits nearly all chart data, including the location percentages and the other dance figures. The task is therefore addressed only partially. Add a concise overview and select key figures to compare both age groups and all locations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic overall shape: an opening sentence introduces the two charts, followed by an overview beginning with “overall”. This gives the reader some sense of the intended organisation. However, the ideas are compressed into one paragraph and do not progress into a description of the data. The linking words “while” and “whereas” are attempted, but the second is awkwardly placed and the relationships between points are not always clear. For example, the location comparison and the age-group comparison are joined in a single long sentence. Separate the introduction, overview and detailed comparisons into paragraphs, and use clear links such as “By contrast” or “In terms of dance styles” to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “pie chart”, “bar chart”, “age group”, “private studios” and “college-based studios”, so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several spelling or word-choice errors make the writing less clear, such as “adolescentes”, “choosen”, “basked” and “regads”. “Kind of dances classes” is also an imprecise and unnatural phrase. Use the chart’s labels directly and choose accurate terms such as “dance styles” and “venue”. Careful proofreading would help prevent errors from distracting the reader. To develop this criterion, vary the language used to compare proportions and popularity, while keeping the wording precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts to combine information using clauses with “while” and “whereas”, and the main comparisons can mostly be understood. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently. For example, “the bar chart illustrate” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the most choosen place” lacks the correct grammatical form and article pattern. The final sentence also runs several ideas together without clear punctuation, making the relationships harder to follow. Practise writing short, complete comparison sentences first, checking agreement and articles, then combine them with accurate linking clauses. For instance, use “The bar chart illustrates…” and give each chart comparison a clearly punctuated sentence.
