Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given pie chart illustrates location of dance classes and the bar chart shows the type of dance classes youth choose in a town in Australia in today's time.

Overall, it can be seen that the greater number of individuals attend classes in private studios and fewer people choose college-based studios. While ballet is most populler in under 11 students, modern dance is prefered by individuals who are between 11 to 16.

In pie chart, Private studio accounted for the 48% which is greatest among all other places for dance classes. Whereas, school halls and community halls & other have proportion of 24% and 18% respectively. The college-based studio is prefered by fewer students, which accounted for only 10%.

In bar chart, ballet dance classes number is 600 of under 11 learners and 300 students are between 11-16. Tap dance classes have 460 under 11 students and 420 individuals between 11-16. Lastly, modern dance classes have more than 500 students who are between 11-16 and 300 students who are under 11.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both charts and provide a clear overview, identifying private studios as the leading location and college-based studios as the least common. You also compare the age groups, correctly noting that ballet is strongest among under-11s and that modern attracts more 11–16-year-olds. Most figures are reported accurately; the tap figure for under-11s is slightly high at 460 rather than approximately 450, which is a minor discrepancy. The overview could be more complete by highlighting the contrasting pattern for tap, which is nearly equal across the age groups and slightly higher among older students. This would make the key comparisons more fully developed and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the pie and bar charts. This makes the information easy to follow, and signposts such as “Overall,” “In pie chart,” and “In bar chart” help distinguish the sections. However, some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated chart-based openings, and “Whereas” begins a fragment rather than being smoothly connected to the preceding sentence. The final paragraph lists the dance figures in sequence but could group comparisons more clearly—for example, contrasting the age groups within each dance style. More varied transitions and clearer links between related figures would strengthen the progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “accounted for,” “proportion,” “prefer,” and “individuals,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “the type of dance classes youth choose” is less suitable than describing classes young people attend, and “in today’s time” is an awkward way to refer to the present. Spelling errors such as “populler” and “prefered” also detract from control. Some repetition of “students” and “dance classes” could be reduced through more precise alternatives. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling, especially in key overview statements.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, including the contrast in “While ballet is most popular …, modern dance is preferred …”. Most of the information remains understandable, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “illustrates location” needs an article, and “Private studio accounted for the 48%” has problems with number and article use. “Whereas, school halls…” is an incomplete sentence, while “ballet dance classes number is 600” uses an awkward and inaccurate sentence structure. There are also punctuation issues, such as the missing space after “Lastly,”. Work on articles, singular/plural agreement, and forming complete comparison sentences to improve accuracy.
