Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify both charts and report several relevant figures, including the largest location share (48% in private studios) and the main age-group contrasts in ballet and modern dance. However, the response does not provide a clear overall summary of the most important patterns, so the reader must infer them from the details. Some figures are also imprecise: under-11 tap is about 450, not 400, while the 11–16 group’s tap figure is about 420. The location figures are described generally rather than compared explicitly. To strengthen the response, add an overview noting that private studios are the most common venue and that preferences differ by age, then report the chart values more accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the charts, discusses locations in one paragraph, and then moves to dance types in another. Sequencing within the bar-chart paragraph is also easy to follow, with “Firstly” and “Secondly” separating the age groups. This clear organisation is a strength. However, the progression is somewhat mechanical, and there is no distinct overview to guide the reader toward the main comparisons before the details. Some links between figures are also missing, so the information reads as a list rather than a connected comparison. Use a concise overview and link related figures directly—for example, contrast the age groups’ ballet and modern participation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “private studios,” “school halls,” “Ballet,” “Tap,” and “Modern,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also useful attempts to vary wording, such as “demonstrates” and “took part in.” However, some expressions are imprecise or repetitive: “dance places” is less suitable than “venues,” and “different dance classes” is repeated. Phrases such as “one-tenth of hundred classes” are unclear and do not accurately express the percentage. Aim for precise chart language, such as “accounted for,” “participation,” and “approximately,” while avoiding unnecessary repetition and ensuring percentage descriptions are complete.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You communicate the main information using a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, and most sentences remain understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “The pie chart illustrate” should be “The pie chart illustrates,” and “around half of the classes held” needs a verb, such as “around half of the classes are held.” There are also inconsistent forms in “11 to 16 year old” and “300 student.” Punctuation spacing is uneven, and the long final sentence would be clearer if divided or structured with parallel phrasing. Check subject–verb agreement and article use, and proofread plural nouns and sentence boundaries.
