Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both charts and identify the main location, private studios, as well as the leading dance style for each age group. The figures are generally accurate: for example, you report 48% for private studios and about 600 under-11 students for ballet. You also compare the age groups, noting that modern is highest among 11–16-year-olds while ballet leads among younger students. However, the overview is placed mainly in the conclusion, and the response gives limited comparison across the two age groups—for instance, it could highlight that older students favour modern whereas younger students favour ballet, while tap participation is similar. Some details are also expressed unclearly, so the key features are not consistently presented with precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph about locations, a paragraph about dance types, and a concluding summary. Sequencing the two charts separately helps the reader follow the information, and transitions such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” signal movement between points. However, the long sentences in the body paragraphs combine several figures and explanations, making comparisons harder to follow. Phrases such as “same as if we look at the age under 11” do not clearly connect the two groups, and the conclusion repeats information rather than sharpening the overview. Use shorter, more clearly organised comparisons and refer explicitly to the age groups and categories.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “private studios,” “community halls,” “college-based studios,” and “dance classes,” so the topic remains clear. There are also attempts to describe quantities with phrases such as “most common” and “widely take.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “provides us the information,” “high in number” for a percentage, and “widely take class.” Repetition of “dance classes” and “in town in Australia” also limits flexibility. Choose concise reporting language such as “accounts for,” “the largest share,” and “the most popular style.” Check spelling and word forms, including “town” rather than “towm,” to make the description more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences that compare figures, and the reader can usually understand the intended information. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer constructions. Examples include “the private studios is 48%,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “the 18% is the community halls,” where the relationship between the percentage and category is not grammatically clear. The sentence beginning “if we look at the age from 11 to 16” also contains several clauses without clear grammatical links. Articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries need attention. Build comparisons with reliable patterns such as “Among 11–16-year-olds, modern was the most popular style, at about 520 students,” then check agreement and punctuation.
