Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify both visuals and give a basic overview, noting the dominance of private studios and that the second chart compares age groups and dance styles. However, the report only partially selects and reports the main features. Several key figures are missing or inaccurate: ballet has about 600 under-11 participants, not 300; modern has about 520 participants aged 11–16, which is not reported, and the under-11 figure is about 300. The description of the location chart lists the percentages correctly, but does not compare them clearly beyond identifying private studios as the largest. Develop the overview around the main contrasts, then report the important figures for all three dance styles and both age groups accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two visuals. This helps the reader identify which chart is being discussed. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and the overview does not clearly summarise the main contrasts in the age-group data. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” are used, but the comparison they introduce is incomplete, while “This is a little fluctuation” does not clearly explain the relationship between the tap figures. Some sentences also run together or lack clear punctuation, for example, “The pie chart provides the information, private studios…” Grouping the dance figures by age or by style and using clearer comparisons would make the report easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “participation,” “private studios,” “participants,” and the names of the dance styles. This gives the response a minimally adequate range for describing the visuals. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, as in “major portion,” “large proportion of halls,” and “college studios are usesd 10% as alocation.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “follwed,” “infornation,” “differnet,” and “havr,” which reduce clarity and polish. Aim for precise chart language such as “accounted for” or “the figure for,” and check spelling and word forms carefully. Avoid repeating “provides the information” when a more direct description is available.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast introduced by “While” and “On the other hand.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors frequently affect sentence accuracy. For example, “Overall, Pie chart illustrates…” lacks an article, while “Ballet dance have largest participants” has problems with agreement and sentence structure. The clause beginning “While, table illustrates…” is not a complete sentence, and “college studios are usesd 10%” has an incorrect verb construction. Punctuation is also unreliable, especially where commas are followed immediately by the next phrase. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete sentence structures before adding more complex clauses.
