Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify both charts and report several relevant figures, including the 48% share for private studios and the 24% for school halls. You also make useful comparisons between age groups, such as the higher ballet figure for under-11s and the higher modern figure for older students. However, the overview is not fully accurate: ballet is not the most popular dance overall, since modern is highest among 11–16-year-olds, and the charts do not show that private studios are “highly attend” in absolute terms. Some figures are also imprecise: under-11 ballet is about 600, not 650, and older students’ tap is about 420, not 439. Covering the main patterns more accurately and clearly would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of location and dance types. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and linking expressions such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” help signal shifts. However, progression within the final paragraph is less clear: the comparisons move from ballet to modern, then to older students’ ballet, and finally tap, without a consistent grouping or clear summary of the age-group pattern. Some connectors, including “Moreover” and “Where as,” feel mechanical or do not connect the clauses smoothly. Grouping the location figures together, then comparing each dance across the two age groups in a consistent order, would make the organisation more effective.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “private studios,” “community hall,” “percentage,” and “learners,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning awkward: “dance practice,” “type of dance join,” “highly attend,” and “ballet type of dance chose” do not express the chart information naturally. Spelling errors such as “adolesents,” “ballent,” and “morden” also reduce precision. Aim for standard chart-reporting phrases such as “attend classes,” “account for,” and “the most popular style,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you describe comparisons without relying on repeated forms of “selected.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparative sentences, for example, “the private studio is half of the juvenile attend with 48 percent” and the sentence comparing ballet with modern. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction often make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. The opening should use a plural verb with “pie chart,” while “the private studio is half” does not form a clear grammatical comparison. The final sentence also lacks a clear structure linking the two tap figures. Punctuation and spacing around commas are inconsistent. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then build comparisons with forms such as “The figure for X was higher than that for Y.”
