Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and give a clear overview of the main contrasts: private studios account for the largest share, college-based studios the smallest, and the leading dance style differs by age group. The figures you report are generally consistent with the chart, including the location percentages and the approximate student numbers. This gives the response a solid, relevant summary. However, some comparisons are less fully developed: for example, you could explicitly identify tap as attracting similar numbers in both age groups, and compare the size of the age-group differences across all three styles. The overview also says ballet is “more popular” among under-11s, but a more precise comparison would state that ballet leads for this group while modern leads among 11–16-year-olds. More selective detail and sharper comparisons would strengthen the report further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on class locations, and a paragraph comparing dance styles. This makes the two charts easy to follow, and phrases such as “Overall,” “According to the pie chart,” and “Looking at the bar chart” help signal the stages of the report. The progression is generally logical, though some links within the data paragraphs are abrupt. In the final paragraph, the shift from tap to modern is not clearly marked, and the last two figures are joined in a way that makes their relationship harder to follow. Use parallel comparison patterns and clearer transitions, such as “By contrast” or “For modern dance,” to guide the reader. More precise referencing would also make the comparisons flow more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to describe the charts, including “accounting for,” “proportion,” “participating,” and “attracts a greater number.” These choices show some range beyond basic repetition. However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation problems reduce precision: “atend,” “studies” for studios, “coomon,” and “the figure are” make parts of the report less polished. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “the lowest point in dances classes” and “almost dance classes 48% take places.” Choose standard chart language and check spelling carefully; for example, describe a category as “accounting for 48%” or “representing the smallest share.” Greater accuracy and more natural collocations would make your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a complex opening with “while” and an overview that contrasts the two age groups. The main information is usually understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries are evident. For instance, “The pie charts illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the private studio are” and “the figure are” also mismatch singular and plural forms. In “The modern dance about 300 younger children attend these classes number of older student is 520,” the clauses are not joined correctly, making the comparison difficult to read. Review agreement and article use, and separate or connect clauses with appropriate punctuation and conjunctions. More consistently controlled sentences would improve accuracy.
