Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You cover both charts and identify the main location pattern, correctly reporting private studios at 48% and the other venues at 18%, 24% and 10%. You also compare the age groups across all three dance styles, and the final observation that older students favour modern dance is supported by the figures. This clear overview and relevant selection of data are effective. However, the overview says ballet has the highest number of students overall, which is not accurate: combining the age groups gives ballet about 900, tap about 870 and modern about 820, so ballet is only slightly ahead. The older group’s modern figure is also given as 530 rather than approximately 520. Keep the overview precise and check figures against the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall sequence: an introduction and overview are followed by a paragraph on locations and one on dance types by age. This makes the two charts easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Moreover” and “Whereas” help signal shifts and comparisons. To make the progression more controlled, avoid beginning a sentence with lowercase “there” after the overview’s full stop, and use contrast markers only where the relationship is genuinely contrasting. The final comparison about older students’ interest in modern dance is useful, but the age-group figures could be organised more consistently—for example, compare each style across the two groups. This would add the more flexible cohesion expected at the next level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “majority,” “less popular,” “age groups” and “more interested,” so the meaning is generally clear. However, the range and control are limited by repeated or imprecise wording such as “students,” “preferred” and “interested,” and several spelling errors: “proportanize,” “preffered,” “enroled” and “peform.” Some expressions are also unnatural for this task, particularly “get enrolled” and “organize the classes.” Choose precise chart language and check spelling carefully; for example, describe the proportion of classes held at each venue rather than saying students “practice there.” More accurate collocations and a wider set of terms for figures and comparisons would make the report more fluent and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a complex comparison beginning “Whereas” and a sentence with “while.” These help you connect information, but control is inconsistent. The overview contains a sentence fragment-like construction after the colon (“there are three types…”), and “there” should begin with a capital letter after the preceding full stop. There are also agreement and article problems in “highest number of student are enrolled,” where the singular noun phrase needs an article and the verb must agree. In the age-group section, “600 students perform ballet 450 tap and 300 students are practicing modern dance” needs clearer punctuation and parallel structure. Aim for complete, accurately punctuated sentences and consistent present-tense reporting.
