Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify both visuals and give a relevant overview, noting that private studios are the most common location and college-based studios the least common. The location figures are reported accurately, and you make useful comparisons between age groups, including the similar tap totals and the greater number of older students taking modern dance. However, the overview claim that ballet has the maximum overall attendance is not supported: ballet totals about 900, while tap totals about 870 and modern about 820, so ballet is indeed highest, but this comparison is not made explicit. Some details are also underdeveloped: the bar-chart discussion gives no figures, and the overview’s claim about the least-attended class is unclear because modern is lowest only among under-11s, not overall. State the key totals or age-group figures to make comparisons precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the pie chart and bar chart. This gives the reader a sensible route through the two visuals, and transitions such as “Overall” and “Turning to the bar graph” help signal shifts in focus. The ideas within the bar-chart paragraph also progress from ballet to tap and modern. To make the organisation more effective, avoid repeating the same maximum/minimum point in both the overview and the detail paragraphs; use the later paragraph to add specific comparisons instead. Some links are mechanical, and the final two sentences about modern dance would be clearer if combined with an explicit comparison between the age groups.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “maximum,” “least,” and “similar,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons you intend. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “least location is apportion for,” “school is covered 24 percentage,” and “maximum number of student … attend.” Repetition of “maximum number” and “least number” also limits flexibility. Use standard reporting phrases such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “the number of students taking.” Check spelling and word forms too: “sudents” is misspelled, and “dance class” often needs to be plural when referring to classes generally. More precise vocabulary would make the report sound more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a contrastive opening with “While” and comparison sentences beginning “Meanwhile” and “Modern dance.” Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. The opening “While the bar graph shows…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence, and “number of students attend” needs a relative or participial construction, such as “the number of students attending.” There are also agreement and article problems in “maximum number of student … attend” and “tap dancing have.” Punctuation spacing is inconsistent, including the missing space after “classes.” and the separated hyphen in “pie- chart.” Aim for complete sentences and check subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms.
