Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify both chart topics and report several key figures accurately, including private studios at 48%, college-based studios at 10%, and the 600 under-11 students taking ballet. You also recognise the contrast in modern dance, where the older group is more numerous. However, the overview is unclear and includes an unsupported claim that there are “maximum 600 students” overall; 600 is a figure for one age-and-dance category, not the total. The response also describes the classes as being for teenagers, although the chart includes children under 11. Some comparisons are incomplete or imprecise, particularly for tap and the age-group totals. A clearer overview of the main contrasts, followed by accurate comparisons across both age groups, would make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the pie chart and bar chart. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and transitions such as “On the other hand” help signal a shift between charts. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several comparisons are packed into long sentences, especially the final sentence about ballet, tap, and modern. Linking phrases such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” are occasionally used without adding a clear new overview point. Organise the bar-chart details into shorter comparisons by age group or dance style, and use references such as “the younger group” consistently to make relationships clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “located,” “conducted,” “students,” and “age group,” so the topic is generally understandable. There is also some attempt to vary wording, for example “shows greater interest.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “maximum number of students … intent to learn,” “minimum number is 10%,” and “dance teacing purpose.” Spelling errors, including “Austaralia” and “teacing,” also reduce control. In addition, “dance classes” is sometimes used where the chart reports numbers of students attending each dance type. Build a more precise set of expressions for describing proportions and student figures, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons with “whereas” and clauses beginning “if we talk about Modern.” However, complex sentences are often difficult to control, and errors sometimes make the relationships between figures unclear. Examples include “bar chart compare,” “there are maximum 600 students,” and “450 student take part,” which show problems with subject–verb agreement, articles, and plural forms. Several sentences also run together without appropriate punctuation, particularly the overview and the final paragraph. Use shorter, complete sentences when comparing figures, and check agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make your comparisons easier to understand.
