Student answer (Band 6.0)

The information about locations of dance classes young people are going in the town of Australia and the types of dance forms learning by young people is depicted in the given pie chart and line chart.

Overall, people going to the private studios are more. In the college-based stuios there are least number of people going. Number of individuals going to school halls and community halls are way more than college studios. In the given line chart, as the age is increasing trend of modern dance form in teenagers is growing higher. Whereas, kids under 11 are showing opposite trend to the teenagers. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You cover both charts and provide a clear overview: private studios are the most common location, college-based studios the least common, and dance preferences differ by age. Most figures are accurately reported, including the location percentages and the approximate values for ballet and modern dance. Your comparisons also identify the strong contrast between younger students’ preference for ballet and older students’ preference for modern. To make the report more fully developed, include the key comparison that ballet falls from about 600 students under 11 to 300 among 11–16-year-olds, while modern rises from 300 to just over 500. Also, “Tap dance has almost equal number” is a useful observation, but the figures are reversed: about 450 younger students and 420 older students attend tap. Avoid unsupported generalisations such as “people” where the chart refers specifically to students.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, separate paragraphs for the two charts, and a concluding sentence. The reader can follow the shift from location data to dance types, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Whereas,” and “Now” help signal relationships. This gives the report a coherent overall arrangement. However, some transitions are mechanical or conversational, particularly “Now scrutinising deeper,” “Now seeing the line chart,” and “Hereby, I conclude my report.” The overview also combines several points without clearly grouping the main contrasts. Use more direct transitions and organise the details by comparison—for example, compare the two age groups within each dance style—to create smoother progression and more flexible cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “private studios,” “college-based studios,” “interested in,” and “trend,” so the main information is generally understandable. However, the range and control are limited by repeated general words such as “people,” “number,” and “going,” as well as inaccurate or unnatural choices. “Dance forms learning” and “most comment” do not express the intended meaning clearly, while “fund of” is an incorrect phrase for expressing interest. There are also spelling errors in “stuios” and “Ballet.” Aim for precise chart language such as “students,” “attend,” “account for,” and “popular,” and check spelling and collocations carefully. This would make the report more natural and reduce moments where the reader has to infer your meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including contrast structures such as “Whereas, kids under 11 are showing opposite trend to the teenagers.” The overall message remains understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns are faulty. For example, “The information … is depicted” is followed by the awkward construction “types of dance forms learning”; “In the college-based stuios there are least number” lacks an article; and “Only 10% people go the college-based studios” omits both an article and a preposition. Subject–verb agreement and number also need attention in “Ballet dance is most comment” and “Tap dance has almost equal number.” Practise accurate article use, plural forms, and complete verb patterns, then proofread each sentence for these recurring issues.
