Student answer (Band 5.5)
In different countries, people prefer to go to a supermarket in order to purchase grocery. This is a common trend all over the world.
Personally, I think it is a positive development for the people as they can buy all the necessary things in one place. Before supermarkets got popular, the people had to visit different markets and shops to buy things of their choice. Now, all these things can be found under one roof.
In the earlier days, there was no concept of a common place like supermarket where a person can buy the products of different categories in one place. For fruits, there used to be a dedicated market where you had to buy different types of fruits from different vendors, Similary, if a person wanted to buy meat, he had to go to a butcher. If a person liked fish, then he had to visit fish market in order to purchase a fish of his choice. The maket for vegetables existed in totally different part of the city. So, a simple grocery shopping took all day and wasted precious time. So, a supermarket where all kind of food products can be found under one food is a great development when we think all these factors.
Therefore, I believe it is more convenient for the people to go and buy food from a supermarket as they can find every kind of food product under the same roof. The people that lives in the regions where supermarkets do not exist understand its importance perfectly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
Your position is clear: you consider supermarkets a positive development because they make shopping more convenient. The examples of separate fruit, meat, fish and vegetable markets support this point and show an understanding of the topic. However, the response addresses the specific issue only partially: the prompt is about access to food produced all over the world, while most of your discussion concerns finding different food categories in one place. You do not explain the benefits or possible drawbacks of international food availability, such as greater choice, year-round access, or effects on local producers. To strengthen the response, connect your reasons directly to globally sourced food and develop at least one relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from your opinion to supporting examples and a concluding statement. The sequence describing fruit, meat, fish and vegetables is easy to follow, and phrases such as “Personally” and “Therefore” signal the direction of your argument. However, the progression is repetitive: the idea that everything is available “under one roof” appears several times, while the discussion does not move on to the international aspect of the question. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “So” and “If a person.” Organise the body around distinct reasons, use referencing and transitions more selectively, and ensure each paragraph advances the argument rather than restating it.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough everyday vocabulary to communicate your main point, including “convenient,” “dedicated market,” “vendors” and “precious time.” These choices help make the shopping example understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, such as “things,” “all kind of food products” and “under one roof.” There are also spelling errors, including “Similary” and “maket,” and some unnatural collocations, such as “purchase grocery.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Build a more topic-specific range for global food access, and check spelling and collocations carefully when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, including conditional examples such as “if a person wanted to buy meat, he had to go to a butcher.” The overall meaning is generally clear. However, errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction remain noticeable. For example, “The people that lives” should use a plural verb, and “under one food” appears to be an incorrect construction. There are also awkward shifts between general statements and past-tense examples, as well as punctuation problems in the long list of markets. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and article use, and divide long sentences into controlled clauses. More accurate complex sentences would improve clarity.
