Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is undeniable that in this modern era, people are getting attracted towards supermarkets and buying products from there. In this regard, In many parts of the world nowadays, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world. According to me, it is an positive development due to several reasons which will outlined in forthcoming fragments with logical conclusion.

To commence with, there are numerous benefits of having a supermarket in a town. The first and foremost is easy accessibility and availability. To explain, as all products of different brands and categories are available in a supermarket. The prices of all products are also at reasonable prices and all time availability are there so, that people can access various items under one place. For example, all drinks are available in a supermarket of different brands and color like coca-cola, monster and red bull. Secondly, financial benefit to customers. To elaborate, consumers get products at very reasonable prices with huge discounts and these discounts offer attracts many customers. Therefore, it benefits to customers as they can buy number of items at less prices than a market. Furthermore, it give rise to an economy. To clarify, as people often visits these supermarkets and buy many food items and other necessities, it give rise to GDP. Hence, it inclines the overall economy of a nation.

However, there are also few demerits of supermarkets. The prime one is that is decline the number of customers of a small shop in a locality. To justify, people get attracted towards these supermarkets so they avoid buying items from local shops. As a result, small shopkeepers occur huge financial loss. Moreover, these supermarkets need large area to build and large space are not available in center of cities so they are constructed out of city that decreases their number of customers.

In conclusion, although there are many advantages of a supermarkets such as easy availability and affordability, giving rise to an economy and financial benefits to customers. Yet demerits cannot be neglected at any cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the positive and negative aspects of global food availability in supermarkets. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While you provide reasons for the positive aspects, the negative side is less thoroughly explored, focusing primarily on the impact on small shops rather than the broader implications of global food trade (e.g., environmental impact or food security). The position is clear, but the argument could be strengthened by providing more nuanced examples beyond just 'coca-cola' or 'red bull'. To improve, ensure that both sides of the argument are balanced and supported with more sophisticated reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', and 'However' to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, some sentences lack logical flow, such as the transition between the benefits of supermarkets and the impact on the economy. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences are fragmented or run-on, which affects the overall cohesion. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate your score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'undeniable', 'accessibility', and 'necessities'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'it inclines the overall economy' (instead of 'boosts' or 'strengthens') and 'small shopkeepers occur huge financial loss' (instead of 'suffer' or 'incur'). Some vocabulary is repetitive, and the phrasing is occasionally unnatural. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding word-choice errors that, while not impeding communication, make the writing sound less professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it give rise to an economy', 'these supermarkets need large area') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences being run-on or missing necessary commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of articles will significantly improve your grammatical accuracy.
