Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this modern , connected world we have the freedom to buy imported food from our local supermarket , this has given the consumers a wide variety of choice . The consumers can choose the best available option in the supermarket , this variety has made the masses to become aware of what is actually beneficial for them.

The availability of food produced all over the world has obviously created a positive development .

'Agricultural Produce', the produce of different countries such as beans, broccoli, asparagus, avocados, cheese , etc. The availability of such healthy options in the market has been really easier for people who like to eat clean and healthy, it has also been influencing the others to follow a healthy lifestyle .

In some countries like Australia there is a law , it states that every food items available on the shelf of the market should be labelled with a health rating. For example a diet coke with zero calories is rated 4/5 and a normal coke with a 1/5 rating. Lower the rating of the product and it has more negative effects on your health. This example concludes that if we have more food items available in the supermarket then the ratio of more healthy options will increase.

In big supermarkets there are various imported items such as Korean ramen and Italian pasta , this brings an opportunity for everyone to try different cuisines of the world. This eventually brings different cultures and religions together.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the positive aspects of global food availability. However, the development is somewhat superficial. While you mention health ratings and cultural exchange, the arguments lack depth and specific analysis. Furthermore, the response falls just short of the 250-word requirement, which necessitates a penalty. To improve, ensure you provide a more balanced exploration of the topic—perhaps acknowledging potential downsides like environmental impact—and expand your supporting points with more detailed explanations to meet the length requirement and fully develop your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow between them is somewhat mechanical. You rely on simple transitions, and some sentences feel disconnected, such as the abrupt shift from the health rating example to the paragraph about cultural exchange. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to create smoother transitions between your ideas, ensuring that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use basic terms like 'good' or 'best available option' and repeat 'supermarket' frequently. While you attempt some topic-specific vocabulary like 'agricultural produce' and 'cuisines', the overall lexical range is limited. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to global trade, nutrition, and cultural integration to demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent punctuation errors, such as unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. You also have some grammatical slips, such as 'made the masses to become aware' (should be 'made the masses aware') and 'every food items' (should be 'every food item'). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your punctuation to improve accuracy.
