Student answer (Band 7.0)

Nowadays, with the industrial revolution and all of its consequences, the way that humans live changed across all countries around the world. Each one's life has been impacted by other cultures on all different fields all the way to how the nourish themselves. While some argue that this development is beneficial to the humanity others argue the contrary.

As far as I am concerned I truly believe that the benefits from this development clearly outweigh it's downsides.

In fact, it is undeniable that some downsides might occur while working on achieving such. As this development does not come without a price. For instance, for food to be transported from a country to an other, country that might be as close or as far as it could, most of the time chemical products with unknown health impacts are used to increase consumption spans. Hence, degrading the quality of the food. What's more, with an access to food from around the world that could damage the local economies of some countries and cities. Making cheaper international food the norm might cause a neglect of the local food thus harming local industries.

However, considering only this perspective may overlook other important factors and lead to an incomplete understanding of the broader issue. As a matter of fact, letting consumers access to different kinds of food products from other countries might help preventing shortages. For instance, if a country lacks the fitting environment to grow a plant, an other country may supply it to them in exchange for resources or food ingredients they do not have. Making both benefiting from such commercial interaction. Moreover, cooperation between people and countries could favor good relations increasing overall appreciations of each others.

To conclude, even though such a development might lead to some downsides. It's advantages proved to be far more beneficial to the overall world population. It could have even more long lasting and greater impacts if it became world wide rather than being limited to a few developed countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have identified both the negative aspects, such as the use of chemicals and the impact on local economies, and the positive aspects, such as preventing food shortages and fostering international cooperation. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported. However, some arguments could be further extended with more specific examples to reach a higher band. For instance, the point about 'chemical products' is a good start, but could be more precisely linked to specific food safety concerns or environmental impacts to deepen the analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'In fact', 'What's more', and 'However' to guide the reader through your arguments. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the sentence fragment 'As this development does not come without a price.' Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'industrial revolution', 'undeniable', and 'commercial interaction'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'consumption spans' (likely meaning 'shelf life') and 'increasing overall appreciations of each others' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, these occasional errors indicate a need for more precise word selection. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'the way that humans live changed' (should be 'has changed'), 'an other' (should be 'another'), and 'letting consumers access to' (should be 'letting consumers access'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary period in 'some downsides. It's advantages'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
