Student answer (Band 7.0)

Nowadays, supermarkets offer a wide variety of food imported from different parts of the world, allowing consumers to purcchase products helps to country origin. In my opinion, this is largely a positive devlopment because it provides grater choice and improves food security, although it may also create some environmental concerns.

To begin with, one significant advantage is that consumers have access to much wider food products throughout the year. In past, people were limited to locally grown food or sesonal produce, whereas today they can buy tropical fruits, imported vegetables, and international dishes whenever they wish. This is not only improves people's diets by increasing nutritions variety but also allows them to experience different cultures through food. For example, supermarkets in India now sell kiwi fruit from New Zealand, avocados from Peru, and cheese from Europe, giving consumers more options than ever before.

Another benefit is that international food trade helps to ensure a stable food supply. If poor weather, natural disasters, or disease reduce agricultural production in one country, imported food can beneficial for the storage and prevent price increases. This global exchange also creates business opportunities for farmers, exporters, boosting economic growth and international cooperation.

However, transporting food over long distance increases greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to climate change. In addition, the popularity of imported products may reduce demand for locally grown or produced food, making it harder for farmers to commpare with international suppliers. Nevertheless, these drawbacks can be addressed by promoting sustainable transport methods can be encouraging consumers to support local agriculture whenever possible.

In conclusion, although importing food from around the world has certain environmental and economic disadvantages. I believe the benefits are outweigh the drawbacks. Greater consumer choice make this trade positive overall.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position that the development is positive. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the mention of specific fruits in India. The argument is well-developed, covering both the benefits of food security and the drawbacks of environmental impact. The conclusion clearly restates the position. To reach a higher band, ensure that the explanation of the drawbacks is as thoroughly explored as the benefits, as the current discussion on environmental concerns is slightly less detailed than the advantages section.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the introduction, two body paragraphs focusing on benefits, one paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Another benefit', 'However', and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to guide the reader. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the structure is clear and supports the central argument well.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

The vocabulary is sufficient for the task, allowing for some flexibility and precision. You have used topic-specific terms like 'food security', 'agricultural production', and 'greenhouse gas emissions' correctly. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'purcchase', 'devlopment', and 'grater', which do not impede communication but prevent a higher score. To improve, try to incorporate more idiomatic expressions or less common collocations to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'This is not only improves' (should be 'This not only improves') and 'can be encouraging' (should be 'and encouraging'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and agreement issues, such as 'benefits are outweigh' (should be 'benefits outweigh'). Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the grammatical range is adequate for the task requirements.
