Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, going to shop food from supermarket is a matter of great importance. While some people believe that online shopping is a good option, I personally believe that going to buy goods from supermarket is a better option and I consider it as positive development due to following reasons that are given below.

One important reason is that when you buy food from market you can check the quality of food. Sometimes ordering online results in having bad or rotten food. While during visiting the market, the food is present in front of you and one can clearly understand its quality.

Another reason is that during strolling through the market, more things a consumer can explore. As during walking through the market many more things came across so there is wide range of choice for consumer. In contrast, during online shopping most of the time customer goes directly to the desired food. Moreover imported food may not be as fresh because it takes longer to reach consumer.

The third positive impact of this is that in this way the business of other countries also rises. People get familiar of different cuisines.

In conclusion, I believe that availability of food from all over the world is a positive development as compare to local food and online shopping. It gives consumer a wide range of choices, ensure food is available through out the year and also improve convenience.

Therefore, I believe overall advantages of this trend are far greater than its disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the availability of global food in supermarkets. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention quality control and variety, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the point about 'business of other countries' is underdeveloped and does not clearly link back to why the availability of global food is a positive development for the consumer. Furthermore, the essay occasionally drifts into a comparison between physical supermarkets and online shopping, which is not the core focus of the prompt. To improve, ensure each paragraph provides a clear, well-supported argument that directly answers the question of whether this trend is positive or negative.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Another reason is', 'The third positive impact'). The logical progression between sentences is occasionally weak; for example, the transition from discussing physical supermarkets to the benefits of imported food is abrupt. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between ideas could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your arguments more fluidly. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs needs more careful planning to ensure a smooth transition of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'good option' and 'bad or rotten food'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'strolling through the market' and 'business of other countries also rises', which sound slightly unnatural. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to global trade, food security, and consumer choice. Avoid repeating simple words and try to use more sophisticated collocations to express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow. Examples include 'going to shop food from supermarket' (should be 'shopping for food at a supermarket') and 'as compare to' (should be 'compared to'). There are also issues with article usage ('the market' vs 'a market') and subject-verb agreement. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like prepositions and articles will significantly improve your score.
