Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the availability of global food is a positive development. However, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the writer provides some reasons, such as convenience and variety, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. The examples provided, such as 'Italian pasta', are simplistic. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and specific, well-developed examples to ensure the response is sufficiently comprehensive and meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and repetitive. For example, the frequent use of 'Also' and 'In addition' at the start of sentences makes the flow feel somewhat stilted. Furthermore, some sentences lack logical connection to the previous ones, such as the transition between discussing discounts and the experience of shopping. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows naturally into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'buy food items', 'buy products', and 'buy groceries' are used frequently, showing a limited range of synonyms. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'excessive amount of discount' and 'simply purchase it', which sound unnatural. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to global trade, consumerism, and economic benefits. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and verbs will help you convey your ideas with greater precision and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'it helps to people save money' (should be 'helps people save') and 'I strong believe' (should be 'I strongly believe'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic errors and practice constructing more complex sentences with accurate punctuation and verb forms.
