Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this developing era, people from any corner of the world are able to purchase the goods made in other nations. Therefore, many people from different countries are able to buy foods grown internationally from supermarkets. I believe this development constitutes for both benefits and drawbacks which will be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs.

To start with, positive impacts of this trend are undeniable. Primarily, it helps to boost the economy of the nation. To explain, when countries ship their produces to other nations, they not only establish good political relations but also earn revenue on their goods which could be used to improve their infrastructure. Additionally, some foods items could not be grown in certain parts of the world because of their geographical and environmental conditions. Therefore, because of this development they are able to taste the gastronomy of other regions which also promote cultural awareness and diversity.

On the other hand, this trend also give rise to some negative affects. Firstly, when the goods are imported from one nation to other, the transportation whether air, road or water, emits high carbon emissions which leads to environment pollution, causing detrimental dangers not only for humans but also for wildlife and aquatic animals. For example, airplanes used for transporting goods release carbon foot prints which pollutes the air quality and give rise to serious health conditions such as lung cancer or asthma. Apart from this, buying international good create hurdles for local producers also. Since people prefer international food items, the local producers struggle to sell and earn their livelihood.

To conclude, even though there re numerous advantages of purchasing international food items, but the deterimental affects on the environment and local businessmen is unavoidable.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the benefits and drawbacks of global food trade. The position is clear from the introduction, and the arguments are relevant. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'political relations' is mentioned but not fully explored, and the conclusion is quite brief, failing to synthesize the arguments effectively. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more depth in your supporting examples and ensure the conclusion provides a more comprehensive summary of your main points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'To start with', 'Additionally', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For example, the final sentence of the essay is a fragment that lacks a proper concluding structure, which affects the overall coherence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a strong, cohesive internal structure will help improve this score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'gastronomy', 'detrimental', and 'livelihood' appropriately. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'constitutes for' (should be 'constitutes') and 'negative affects' (should be 'negative effects'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning the correct prepositional usage and distinguishing between commonly confused words like 'affect' (verb) and 'effect' (noun).

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'this trend also give rise' should be 'gives rise', and 'there re numerous' contains a typo. Additionally, the sentence 'even though there re numerous advantages... but the deterimental affects... is unavoidable' is grammatically incorrect due to the redundant use of 'even though' and 'but'. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly boost your score.
