Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both positive and negative aspects of global food trade. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding 'red bull' and 'sting' is a bit anecdotal and could be more analytical. While you cover all parts of the task, the arguments could be more sophisticated to reach a higher band. Ensure that your supporting examples directly link back to the broader economic or social implications mentioned in the prompt to strengthen your overall argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'The foremost reason', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences is hindered by grammatical errors, such as in the second paragraph where the explanation of the 'red bull' example is slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between your supporting points would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'skyrocketed', 'phenomenon', and 'expenditure'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'worldwide nations', 'vacate the nations treasure', and 'native countries entities'. These errors occasionally make the text sound unnatural. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—rather than just individual synonyms. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, more precise and academic word choices would help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('demand... have skyrocketed', 'shopkeeper has to import'), incorrect verb forms ('This essay will expressing'), and punctuation errors. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent. Increasing the number of error-free complex sentences will also help improve your score in this criterion.
