Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the availability of global food is a positive development. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments focus almost exclusively on the availability of seasonal produce, such as the mention of mangoes in winter. The essay lacks depth regarding other significant aspects of the topic, such as the environmental impact of food miles or the economic benefits for local versus global trade. The ideas are somewhat over-generalized, and the supporting examples are basic. To reach a higher band, you should explore multiple facets of the issue and provide more nuanced reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is weak. The transition between the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion is mechanical. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand', these are often used incorrectly or do not logically connect the ideas that follow. For instance, the second body paragraph repeats points already made in the first, leading to a lack of logical flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the internal structure of the paragraphs is repetitive, which hinders the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'stuff', 'things', 'good', and 'available'. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic task. Phrases such as 'best quality material' and 'feel sickness' are unnatural and imprecise. The repetition of 'in any season' throughout the text significantly reduces the lexical variety. To improve, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, such as 'imported produce', 'global supply chains', or 'nutritional value', rather than generic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('consumer are able to buy', 'supermarket provide'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain run-on structures with awkward phrasing, such as 'This essay is completely positive with this notion because of this all persons are able to enjoy food'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of control over complex structures and the high frequency of errors limit the score.
