Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many nations around the globe, people can now buy food produced in different parts of the world in a supermarket. In my opinion, this is a positive development because it enables people to enjoy different delicacies, and it also supports economic growth. This essay will discuss the reasons why it's a positive development, before reaching a conclusion.

Firstly, this development has made it possible to enjoy different meal from different countries in your home town. Where people can easily go to a near by supermarket and purchases food produced in another country. For example, in Lagos state Nigeria, individuals currently enjoying pizza produced in America from a supermarket which has enabled them to eat such delicacy without visiting the United States. Therefore, one might argue that such meal are usually very expensive, but the satisfaction gotten from it is a preferable option.

Secondly, it has contributed massively to the economic growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, which severely limits the development of your ideas. While you clearly state your position that the trend is positive, the arguments are underdeveloped. You mention economic growth but fail to provide any explanation or examples to support this point, leaving the essay incomplete. To improve, you must expand on your main ideas with detailed explanations and relevant examples, ensuring you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for a full discussion of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' to structure the response. However, because the essay is incomplete, the overall progression of ideas is stunted. Paragraphing is present, but the second paragraph is far too short to establish a logical flow. To improve, ensure that each paragraph contains a clear topic sentence followed by supporting evidence and a concluding thought, and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally functional but limited. You rely on simple phrasing such as 'different parts of the world' and 'economic growth'. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'satisfaction gotten from it' and 'meal are usually very expensive' (should be plural 'meals'). To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to global trade, consumerism, and economic impact, while paying closer attention to pluralization and natural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'individuals currently enjoying pizza' is a sentence fragment, and 'such meal are' shows a lack of subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the grammatical control is inconsistent. To improve, focus on ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practice using complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences more accurately to demonstrate a wider range.
