Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent days most of the countries, consumers can go to the supermarket and buy food produced all over the world. Although availability of global products will affect the local producers, however the positive side is consumer gets opportunity to experience variety of nutritious foods product produced in different countries, try out different healthier options, can experience food from different culture.
Supermarket now offers food from many countries. Where consumers gets an opportunity to experience variety of various nutritious food products, specially living in Canada we get various options food products such as Indian spicies, Chinese Noodles, Italian Pasta, Brazilians fruits etc.
People can access a wider range of nutritious foods throughout the year. International food also allows people to experience other cultures. Someone who never travelled China can now get chance to taste Chinese dishes and ingredients at home.
However there is an negative side, the cost of food is exported products are expensive compared with the locally grown products. Also to much of exports of international products will impact the local farmers. Also we there are transport based emission which need to be taken into consideration. Also in many cases specially on international products list fish and meat many chemicals are added to keep them from perishing which are non consumable. Government and consumer should still support local farmers consuming international products available in supermarkets.
In my opinion, this is a largely positive development because it provides consumers with greater choice and access to a wider range of foods, although it can create challenges for local producers and the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument, acknowledging the benefits of global food availability while also discussing the drawbacks such as environmental impact and the challenges for local farmers. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits are supported with examples like Canadian access to international ingredients, the negative points are listed in a somewhat repetitive manner without deep exploration. The position is clear, but the conclusion could be more integrated with the preceding arguments to provide a more cohesive final stance. Overall, it meets the requirements of the prompt but lacks the depth of analysis required for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and repetitive. For example, the word 'also' is used at the start of four consecutive sentences in the fourth paragraph, which disrupts the flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'the cost of food is exported products are expensive', where the grammatical structure makes the relationship between ideas confusing. While there is a logical progression, the transitions between sentences and paragraphs could be smoother and more varied to improve the overall readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express basic ideas about food, trade, and culture. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'nutritious', 'perishing', and 'transport based emission'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'In recent days' (instead of 'Nowadays' or 'In recent years') and 'to much of exports' (instead of 'excessive exports'). The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent it from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('consumer gets opportunity', 'consumers gets an opportunity') and incorrect sentence construction ('the cost of food is exported products are expensive'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in article usage and prepositional phrases. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the writing from demonstrating the control required for a higher band score.
