Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both positive and negative aspects of global food availability in supermarkets. However, the development of ideas is often repetitive and lacks depth. For example, the argument regarding 'saving time' is mentioned multiple times in the first paragraph without being expanded upon with clear, logical reasoning. The position is generally clear, but the lack of specific examples or a more sophisticated analysis of the 'global' aspect of the prompt limits the score. The response tends to over-generalize about students and working people, which prevents a more nuanced discussion of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'moreover' and 'in addition', they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The transition between sentences is frequently abrupt, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical progression of the argument. For instance, the shift from discussing working people to students in the first paragraph lacks a clear linking idea. Referencing is also inconsistent, and the paragraph structure is somewhat repetitive in its phrasing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate, which occasionally impedes communication. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'consume their time' (instead of 'save time'), 'sayings' (instead of 'savings'), and 'pacage food' (instead of 'packaged food'). The range of vocabulary is narrow, relying on basic terms that are repeated throughout the text. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are consistent issues with sentence structure, including run-on sentences and fragments. Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces before commas and missing capital letters at the start of sentences. Subject-verb agreement errors are common, such as 'some food are maid' and 'it lead to'. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are often faulty and contain errors that make the meaning difficult to decipher at times.
