Student answer (Band 5.5)

in todays world individuals buy food from many different countries in super markets. I believe this is a positive development because it gives consumers more choices and provides several benifits to both customers and buisnrsses.

First of all buying food from different countries gives people more variety as well as taste. Consumers can try different foods from different culture and enjoy new falvours that are not available in thier own country. For example people in pakistan can easily buy italian pasta, chinese noodles, or sushi and turkish sweets in many large supermarkets. This allow people experience different cultures through food without travelling there.

Another advantage is that international food can improve competition between food producers

When supermarkets sell products from different countries have to improve the quality of their produts and keep their prices reasonable. Because of this consumers can get better quality food at affordable prices. this can also be benifit for international traders. Countries can sell their agricltural and foods to foriegn markets which can increase wmployment and economy.

However there little bit of disadvantages such as increased transeportation and may be pollution

requires more fuel over long distances transportation which can contribute to enviromental problems. Nevertheless this might be reduced by using environmentally friendly transportation and buying locally produced food when possible.

In conclusion although sellng food from around the world may cause some environmental disadvantages. But i believe that it has a positive development towrds economy and employment and it also make oppertunities for consumers to get more variety of food.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the development is positive. The ideas regarding consumer choice, competition, and economic benefits are relevant and supported with examples, such as the availability of Italian and Chinese food in Pakistan. However, the development of the counter-argument regarding environmental impact is somewhat brief and could have been extended further to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, though the overall development of ideas is slightly simplistic. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more in-depth analysis of the implications of the arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Another advantage', and 'Nevertheless' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between the benefits for consumers and the benefits for international traders is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'agricultural', 'international traders', and 'environmentally friendly'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'benifits', 'buisnrsses', 'falvours', 'agricltural', 'foriegn', 'wmployment', and 'oppertunities'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to incorporate a wider range of less common lexical items to demonstrate more sophisticated control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with punctuation, missing articles, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'there little bit of disadvantages', 'it also make oppertunities'). Some sentences are fragmented or lack necessary punctuation, which affects the overall fluency. The student demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for common errors like missing articles and verb endings would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
