Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by arguing that global food availability is a positive development. However, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which negatively impacts the score. While you present relevant ideas regarding cultural exchange and convenience, the development is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the discussion on 'kachori' is a good start but is not fully linked to the broader economic or environmental implications of global food trade. To improve, ensure you fully explore your arguments with more detailed analysis and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to avoid a penalty.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the repetitive use of 'Elaborating further' to start paragraphs. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the jump from discussing cultural snacks to supermarket discounts in the second paragraph feels disjointed. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'special food' and 'ordinary essentials' repeatedly. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'consumers form many countries' (should be 'from') and 'people prefer this stores' (should be 'these'). To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'globalisation', 'culinary diversity', or 'logistical efficiency', and pay closer attention to pluralisation and preposition usage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every country have'), incorrect prepositions (e.g., 'concerned with different tastes'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'because of individuals minds'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of semicolons and commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like article usage and plural forms. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures will also help demonstrate better grammatical control.
