Student answer (Band 6.5)
Food consumption worldwide has seen a major change as now people from different countries can eat food which is produced in different parts of the world by buying it from their nearest grocery stores . I agree that it is a positive development as people can experience different cultures and can have authentic cuisines all from the comfort of their home country .
Firstly, citizens of all countries can consume international cuisines which are completely unique. This also helps to remove confusion and bias regarding certain underappreciated cuisines like the Indian cuisine . Many people from the west are unaware that Indian cuisine does not only consist of overly spicy dishes ,by trying it via supermarkets they can experience the authentic taste first hand instead of relying on other peoples opinion.
Furthermore, for businesses as well it is a very positive measure . As businesses from different parts of the world can expand into new markets across different countries helping to maintain quality of food products as they are aware of competition from other companies globally resulting in less waste and lower costs eventually leading to an increase in their profit margins.
However, there is also a concern that many companies due to this intense competition use cheaper methods like using hazardous chemicals including Red 40 which is a food color banned in the European Union due to its toxicity . These types of sweeteners and preservatives are proven to cause many digestive and even skin diseases harming the health of the public. Additionally, such measures are taken to improve the shelf life of the food products as they are exported via ships to other countries and it is a time consuming process .
In conclusion, accessibility of global cuisines is very beneficial as it helps to remove doubts and rumors about misunderstood ethnic groups and it helps to make the world more interconnected as food helps countries represent a better picture of their region and culture . In many countries nowadays, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, providing a clear position that the development is positive while acknowledging the negative aspects of food safety. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For example, the argument regarding cultural exchange and the counter-argument about chemical additives are both logically presented. However, the conclusion is slightly repetitive, as it restates the prompt's instructions verbatim at the end, which is unnecessary. To reach a higher band, ensure that the conclusion synthesizes the main points rather than repeating the task instructions. Overall, the response is well-focused and maintains a consistent position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the benefits and the drawbacks is handled effectively using cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'However'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. While the flow is generally smooth, some cohesive devices are slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition between the business benefits and the health concerns could be more sophisticated. Nevertheless, the referencing is clear, and the overall structure supports the reader's understanding of the argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey ideas with precision. You have used some topic-specific terminology such as 'authentic cuisines', 'profit margins', 'hazardous chemicals', and 'preservatives'. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is generally successful. However, there are minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'remove confusion and bias' (perhaps 'dispel misconceptions' would be more natural) and 'maintain quality of food products' (perhaps 'ensure quality'). Despite these minor inaccuracies, the range is adequate for the task, and the meaning is always clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You have successfully used complex sentences to explain cause and effect, such as 'As businesses from different parts of the world can expand into new markets... resulting in less waste'. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the Indian cuisine') and punctuation issues (spaces before commas). However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. The control of grammar is generally good, and the variety of structures is sufficient to support a clear argument.
