Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recents years, globalization has enhanced many facilities in this world. At present in many parts of the world, People can buy various food items produced from different countries. I think this development has many advantages.

To begin with, people have an opportunity to try different kinds of food products which are produced from all around the world. Individuals who live in a foreign country for their work or study can taste their traditional items, because in many supershops, business owners import readymade food items from various country. For example, in the UK, there are a large number of supermarkets who import bengali processed food, the bengali immigrants in this country can taste their cultural food items. Furthermore, buying food products from supermarket saves a lot of time. In foreign nations, immigrants often face many difficulties to find their nations food ingredients. Either they need to spend a huge time for these items or they have to import them by their own, which definitely costs a huge money. When they buy their daily needs which are imported from their nations, not only save time but also reduce the accomodation costs.

Another reason is that this phenomenon escalates the developing nations. In a under-developed nation, farmers and local business owners can earn a huge revenue by selling food products to foreign nations. Consequently, they contribute monetary support to their birtplace as they earn a huge amount of foreign currency. Those developing countries get more benefits in this way.

In conclusion, it is clear that the development of buying food from supershops which are produced from different countries can boost the developing nation's economic state and benefit people who live in a overseas country as they can consume their cultural food products. Thus, this development is clearly a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed the prompt by clearly stating your position that the availability of global food products is a positive development. You provide two main supporting arguments: the convenience and cultural benefits for immigrants, and the economic advantages for developing nations. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. However, the response could be improved by providing more nuanced examples or addressing potential counter-arguments to reach a higher level of critical analysis. The conclusion effectively summarizes your main points and reinforces your stance, ensuring the task requirements are met throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your arguments. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For instance, the link between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the logical flow is maintained, making the essay easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'globalization', 'immigrants', and 'economic state'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'enhanced many facilities' (which is vague) and 'a huge money' (which should be 'a large amount of money'). You also repeat certain phrases like 'huge' and 'produced from'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and avoid repetitive phrasing. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a good start. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a under-developed nation' should be 'an under-developed nation'), pluralization ('various country' should be 'various countries'), and prepositions ('in a overseas country' should be 'in an overseas country'). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and refining your control over complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
