Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both positive and negative aspects of global food availability in supermarkets. However, the development of ideas is often repetitive and lacks depth. For example, the argument regarding 'time saving' is mentioned multiple times in both the positive and negative paragraphs without adding new insight. The position is generally clear, but the lack of sophisticated supporting evidence or logical progression makes the argument feel somewhat superficial. To improve, you should focus on developing distinct, well-supported points rather than repeating the same concepts in different ways.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. While you use some cohesive devices like 'furthermore', 'moreover', and 'in addition', they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, which makes the progression of ideas feel disjointed. For instance, the transition between the positive and negative paragraphs is abrupt. To improve, focus on using cohesive devices to link ideas logically rather than just starting sentences with them, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'buying', 'food', and 'supermarket'. There are also instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'sayings' (likely meant 'savings') and 'maid' (meant 'made'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range to include more academic collocations and topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'global supply chains', 'processed foods', or 'nutritional value', while ensuring you use them in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede readability. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'supermarket are open'), article usage (e.g., 'buy a food'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'it is often claimed that , nowadays in many countries consumers can choose supermarket for buy a food'). Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary spaces before commas and inconsistent capitalization. The range of structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. To improve, you must focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and reducing the frequency of errors in your writing.
