Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, it has become convenient to buy internationally manufactured products from the local market in many countries. I think it is a positive development because it increases choices for the people as well as generate the profit for government.
I believe, people having access to imported food products is beneficial as it increases variety of food for the individuals. Many areas of the world do not have four seasons, either they have low temperature or high temperature all year around. That is why they are unable to produce certain types of food. For instance, fruits like the pineapple and mango have specific temperature and atmospheric requirements. However, people can enjoy that food by purchasing from their supermarkets. Moreover, people who are able to purchase foreign goods financially benefits their government, as imported food products are imposed with taxes that goes directly to state accounts and used for public services to facilitate the them in return.
However, critics argue that the availability of food produced all over the world in not advantageous for the local farmers. It devalues the locally produced food, as people are more drawn towards the internationally manufactured goods. In contrast, unavailability of the imported products will allow people to pay attention towards the local food products. Consequently, it will financial benefit the farmers as well as the local markets of their own country.
In conclusion, although buying locally manufactured products will benefit the people of that country, availability of food produced in different regions of the world increases food options for the individuals and benefits the government in terms of the revenue generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the development is positive. The ideas are relevant, such as the availability of seasonal produce and the economic benefits of taxation. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the argument regarding government revenue is mentioned but not fully explained in terms of its impact. The counter-argument regarding local farmers is introduced but could be more effectively integrated into the overall stance. Overall, the response is well-structured and maintains a clear position throughout, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0, though it leans towards the latter due to the clear development of the main arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In contrast' are used to link ideas effectively. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the benefits of variety to the economic impact, and finally addressing the opposing view. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to reach the higher bands. The use of referencing is generally clear, ensuring the reader can follow the argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'internationally manufactured', 'atmospheric requirements', and 'revenue generation'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'financially benefits their government' (should be 'financially benefits the government') and 'facilitate the them' (a grammatical error that also affects lexical clarity). While the range is adequate for the task, it lacks the more sophisticated, precise, or idiomatic expressions required for a higher band. The vocabulary is functional but does not demonstrate a wide range of less common items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a reasonable level of control over grammar, but several errors persist. For instance, 'generate the profit' (should be 'generates profit'), 'people having access' (should be 'people having access to'), and 'facilitate the them' are noticeable errors. Punctuation is generally correct, but the sentence structure could be more varied to enhance the flow. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching the Band 7 level for grammatical accuracy. The writer demonstrates a good grasp of basic structures but needs more consistency in complex sentence construction.
