Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, various states consumers stock food and import from distant countries. while this global food trade offer benefits to consumers, it also create good environment and no restricted seasonal foods and no economic drawback.

One of the main reasons why i strongly support my opinion many significant number of variety or choices in food e.g. vegetable and fruit etc. No seasonal food barrier because different season in different Asian and European countries. Farmers chance to import opportunity and produce income better. For Instance, In Kenyan flowers and vegetables farmers grow and ship in UK supermarkets and then support our local economy.

While some people may argue that opposing view and i believe that argument because during food miles transportation increase carbon emissions or damage environment. Local farmers do not complete imported good food and then freshness badly effected for long distance struggle and waste your food. To illustrates, the tomaotes imported from Spain is expensive as compare to UK local farmers is affordable.

In conclusion while there are arguments on both sides, i firmly believe that balanced import and local farmers and then possible to prioritize local farmers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 188 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and under-developed. While the essay attempts to address both sides of the argument, the position is not consistently clear, and the supporting points lack depth. For instance, the mention of Kenyan farmers is a good start but is not expanded upon to fully support the argument. To improve, you must provide more detailed explanations and examples to reach the required length and ensure the prompt is addressed thoroughly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is often hindered by fragmented sentences and a lack of clear cohesive devices. Transitions between ideas are frequently missing or misused, such as in the third paragraph where the connection between environmental concerns and local farmers is disjointed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall flow is mechanical. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'on the other hand') to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise, which occasionally makes the meaning difficult to follow. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choice, such as 'various states consumers stock food' and 'freshness badly effected'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. To improve, you should practice using topic-specific collocations related to global trade and environmental impact, and focus on using words in their correct grammatical form (e.g., 'affected' instead of 'effected').

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'trade offer', 'it also create'), missing articles, and incomplete sentence structures. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. Complex structures are attempted but are often faulty, such as 'while some people may argue that opposing view and i believe that argument'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralisation, before attempting more complex structures.
