Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, in most of the countries, consumers can buy food produced all over the world from supermarket. I think this is a positive development. This essay discusses the explaination, reasons and related examples to support my opinion.
Availability of food items that is produced worldwide raise the standard of living of a society or community. There are many examples of countries like KSA and Oman that do not produce many agricultural products as they have not enough fertile land or suitable weather to produce agriculture goods. They cannot ensure the food security, meet the need of their people with limited production. They import the agriculture goods like products of wheat, rice, vegetables, oils crops to meet the consumption of their people. Many supermarket brands that import these food products from different countires and ensure the availability to local public.
Without importing of food goods, it is not possible to ensure the standard nutrition, and food security of people. In the recent years, many countries make sure to prepare proper channels to import the goods that contribute to nation's food security and nutrition. Today, many countries have enough imported standard food items that is produced all over the world and leads to equal nutrition to everyone. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the global availability of food is a positive development. You provide relevant examples, such as the import reliance of KSA and Oman, to support your argument. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. While you mention food security and nutrition, the essay could be improved by exploring other dimensions, such as the environmental impact of food miles or the economic benefits for local farmers in exporting countries. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesize the points made. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported argument rather than restating the same point about food security.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. You use some cohesive devices like 'For example' and 'Similarly', but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'This essay discusses the explaination', which is unnecessary filler. Additionally, the final paragraph contains a sentence fragment ('and nobody can ignore its impact...') that disrupts the logical progression. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'food items', 'goods', and 'products' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'standard nutrition' instead of 'nutritional standards' and 'oils crops' instead of 'oilseeds'. While your meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and you do not demonstrate the ability to use less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions effectively. Expanding your vocabulary related to global trade, sustainability, and economic development would significantly enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently omit articles ('in most of the countries', 'from supermarket') and struggle with subject-verb agreement ('Availability of food items that is produced... raise the standard'). There are also errors in pluralization and word forms, such as 'explaination' (spelling) and 'countires' (spelling). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules, particularly article usage and subject-verb agreement, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater precision.
