Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 183 words. Furthermore, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence in the conclusion. While the prompt asks for an opinion on whether the global availability of food is a positive or negative development, the response lacks a clear, consistent position. The ideas presented, such as convenience and security, are underdeveloped and do not fully address the implications of global food distribution. Because the task is not completed and the length is significantly under the requirement, the response is severely limited in its ability to address the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The essay shows some attempt at paragraphing, but the logical progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and often inaccurate way, such as 'One other hand' and 'First and foremost'. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the lack of a finished conclusion means there is no overall sense of coherence. The flow of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument, which is a characteristic of lower band descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate, which frequently impedes communication. There are numerous word-choice errors, such as 'marketing tend is alter' instead of 'marketing trends have changed' and 'supermarket is convenient and safe times' instead of 'time-saving'. The student attempts to use more complex vocabulary like 'surveillance' and 'rapport', but these are often used in incorrect contexts or collocations. The range is insufficient to express ideas with precision, and the persistent errors in basic word forms and spelling significantly impact the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures that contain frequent errors. Subject-verb agreement is a major issue, for example, 'supermarkets is convenient' and 'These is because'. There are also persistent errors in article usage, pluralization, and word order, such as 'The people can select the display product with price at times'. Complex structures are rarely attempted, and when they are, they are usually grammatically incorrect. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher level of accuracy.
