Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often argued that, in some nations, people can go to a supermarket and purchase food produced from all parts of the world today. In my opinion, it has a positive development because it helps international students living abroad and increase cultural exchange.
One of the prime benefits of this development is that, it gives international students a home meal experience as they cannot get many local items abroad. Over time students get homesickness from the new culture and food habit. When they find any local item in a supermarket from their country, they can enjoy it while sitting miles away from home. This simple act can reduce homesickness and uplift one's mood as food has the power to make people energize and happy. For example, many students living in the USA, get hands on local spices from their country which is quite exciting for them. Hence, it is a positive development for the international students.
Another advantage of the availability of food from all over the world in supermarkets is that, people get to exchange culture through food items. They are exposed to various types of products which represents a nations food choices and habits. This way people try out different recipes and staple foods, experiencing cultural diversity at home. Moreover, it has become convenient to know about a food origin and history behind it from the internet. As a result, supermarkets now are more encouraged to source diverse products from all over the world in their inventory. For example, Ramen is presently a very popular food item from South Korea, available in every store. People enjoy it not only for the taste but also for the culture behind it using chopsticks which is a specific cultural utensil but now it is widely used in many counties. It indicates the cultural exposure and experience that comes with food items sourced from all over the world.
In conclusion, i completely believe that, the benefits for international students and cultural perspective are undoubtedly positive developments that supermarkets provide at present with availability of food produced all over the globe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding international students and cultural exchange are relevant and well-supported with examples. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, and the example of Ramen being from South Korea is factually inaccurate, which slightly weakens the credibility of the argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that examples are accurate and that the discussion explores the implications of the topic more deeply rather than just listing benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the prime benefits', 'Another advantage', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some transitions feel a bit forced. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the central topic of each paragraph is clear. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, though the connection between the internet and supermarket inventory in the second body paragraph could be more tightly integrated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for clear communication. There is an attempt to use less common items like 'cultural diversity' and 'inventory'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'food habit' instead of 'eating habits' and 'make people energize' instead of 'provide people with energy'. The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and sophisticated vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band. Spelling is generally accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, there is an unnecessary comma after 'is that' in several places, and issues with subject-verb agreement or article usage, such as 'a nations food choices' (should be 'a nation's') and 'many counties' (likely meant 'countries'). Despite these errors, the control of grammar is sufficient to ensure that communication is not impeded. More consistent accuracy in complex structures would improve the score.
