Student answer (Band 6.5)
In some countries, consumers getting food sourced from all over the world in supermarkets is a topic of discussion today. I believe this is a positive development as it enriches cultural exchange and helps international students feel more connected to homeland.
One of the major advantages of supermarkets selling diverse products sourced from different nations is that it exposes consumers to multiple cultures in the form of a food. People experience not only different flavors but also various cousins, culinary options and the history behind those. This way, cultural appreciation and exchange take place without travelling to distance places. For example, Japanese ramen, Korean kimchi and Mexican tortillas can be found in almost every store now. It increased people's food options as well as brought various cultures together, creating respect and appreciation for other nations' culinary aspects.
Another positive benefit is that, many students who stay away from home to another country for study purpose, can experience their traditional home meal in a foreign land. Culinary culture in each country is very different which lead international students to face unknown eating habits creating adjusting issues. In the long run it can increase the feeling of homesickness, hampering health, academic and emotional wellbeing. Hence, when students find local food items in supermarkets, they get to connect more with their traditional food and increases emotional wellbeing making them feel close to home. For example, Bangladeshi or Indian students in USA can easily find domestic spices and snack items at the supermarkets. The availability of such food produce make more connected to their roots.
In conclusion, I believe, availability of global food items in local supermarkets surely has positive development rather than negative because the cultural exposure through food and international students' emotional wellbeing make this facility worth it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding cultural exchange and the emotional wellbeing of international students are relevant and well-supported with specific examples, such as the mention of Japanese, Korean, and Mexican food, as well as the experience of students in the USA. The ideas are extended sufficiently to meet the requirements of the prompt. To reach a higher band, ensure that the introduction provides a more comprehensive overview of the main points to be discussed, rather than just stating the position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the major advantages', 'Another positive benefit', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some referencing is slightly mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences within paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for the expression of ideas with reasonable precision. There are some good collocations like 'culinary options' and 'emotional wellbeing'. However, there are instances of word-choice errors, such as 'various cousins' (meant 'cuisines') and 'distance places' (meant 'distant places'). These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise vocabulary to reach the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'consumers getting food... is a topic' (subject-verb agreement), 'in the form of a food' (article usage), and 'make more connected' (missing subject). These errors occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions, which would enhance the overall accuracy of your complex sentences.
