Student answer (Band 5.5)

Food products are available all over the world as consumers can go to nearest supermarket and buy food easily . I believe it is a positive development as it makes very easy access for the consumers to purchase food of their choices.

Moreover, for a consumer food plays an important role . In many countries vegetarian food is not accessible and one has to survive with the particular country based food only. For example, if I am vegetarian i would not prefer to eat meat while travelling outside my country or anywhere as most of people in India are vegetarian, Also its against our religion as well. Furthermore , we have to carry pre-mix readymade food with us.

In addition ,variety of food is accessible to each and every consumer .They can access variety of food or ingredients from many countries which will be more convenient for them and they will need to put less efforts to find food items for example, I am an Indian and India is known for its spices, some spices are not available in many countries one needs to search it in Indian store. So ,it would be convenient for me to go to nearest supermarket and purchase spices which I desire.

In conclusion, I would personally recommend that fresh food items should be available all over the supermarkets in most of the countries and should also be available online for example, in India we have some third party applications zepto and swiggy which will deliver every item instantly to the consumers and makes it easy for online purchase as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the availability of global food products is a positive development. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. While you provide personal examples regarding vegetarianism and spices, the argument lacks a broader perspective on the economic or environmental implications of global food trade, which would have strengthened the essay. The conclusion introduces new information about delivery apps like 'Zepto' and 'Swiggy', which is slightly off-topic as the prompt focuses on the availability of global food in supermarkets rather than the logistics of local delivery services. To improve, ensure your supporting points directly address the 'positive development' aspect with more depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow between ideas is occasionally disjointed. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion', but these are used in a somewhat mechanical fashion. The transition between the idea of vegetarianism and the availability of spices is abrupt. Furthermore, the referencing is sometimes unclear; for instance, the sentence 'For a consumer food plays an important role' is a vague opening for a paragraph. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors such as 'very easy', 'important role', and 'convenient'. There is some repetition of words like 'food', 'available', and 'consumer'. While you successfully use terms like 'ingredients' and 'supermarket', the overall lexical range is limited. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations, such as 'globalised food supply', 'culinary preferences', or 'logistical convenience', rather than repeating simple phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder readability. For example, there are issues with article usage ('the nearest supermarket', 'a variety of food'), missing commas, and run-on sentences. The phrase 'one has to survive with the particular country based food only' is awkward and grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of sentence construction and punctuation rules.
