Student answer (Band 5.5)
In multiple countries these days, customers can visit a supermarket and purchases the food which is produced all around the globe. I strongly believe that this is a positive development and explain why this is not a negative development.
To begin with, buying an international food from a supermarket is a positive development, it contains different spices and the customer might be addicted to that specific food because of special ingredients in it. Large number of individuals are mostly attracted to international food. For instance, if you like Italian pasta you would definitely prefer Italian supermarket which have this type of dish. Therefore, international foods are quietly expensive than traditional.
Furthermore, buying international food can significantly increase countries economy and revenue. In addition, importation of foods from different countries will be escalated due to high demand of customers, subsequently rising of this trend will also increase job opportunities among young generation in retail, warehouse and logistics. For example, if individuals are buying imported foods this will boost the countries economy and also increases the jobs for young people respectively. Therefore, government will also get benefit by receiving tax from businesses and importers. This will benefits both the government and the citizens respectively.
In conclusion, buying international food from a supermarket can benefit young individuals by providing job opportunities in retails, warehouse and logistics whereas, government can get benefited by receiving tax. I strongly believe that visiting supermarket and buying food which is produced all over the world is a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the availability of global food is a positive development. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The first body paragraph relies on a weak argument about 'addiction' to spices, which lacks logical depth. The second paragraph focuses on economic benefits, which is more relevant, but the explanation is repetitive. While the task is addressed, the ideas are not fully extended or supported with sophisticated reasoning, and the argument remains somewhat superficial throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly awkward, such as the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure could benefit from more sophisticated linking between sentences to improve the flow of arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'quietly expensive' instead of 'considerably more expensive' and 'escalated' used in a context that does not quite fit. The repetition of phrases like 'positive development' and 'international food' limits the range. While the meaning is generally clear, the student struggles to use less common lexical items effectively, and there are minor errors in collocation that prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('this will benefits', 'increases the jobs'), incorrect verb forms ('purchases the food'), and missing articles ('increase countries economy'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. The student attempts complex structures, but they are often marred by these inaccuracies, which prevents the writing from reaching a higher level of grammatical control.
