In many countries nowadays, consumers can go to a supermarket and buy food produced all over the world.

Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that an increasing trend can be seen in multiple countries where consumers can explore supermarkets to buy goods and food produced worldwide. I believe that this is a positive development in retail market.
Supermarkets provide customers a convinient place to explore and purchase their desired products. They typically contain multiple sections offering groceries, health products and household items, including electronics and kitchen utensils, under one roof. For example, LuLu hypermarket is distinguished international retail chain worldwide where people can find wide range of products under one roof. Large supermarkets contribute towards economic growth by creating employments and increase customer spreading.
For instance, foreginers and tourists travelling to a new country can get benefits from supermarkets when doing their shopping or groceries for the daily living instead of visiting several different shops. In that case, these giant stores help them in hunting their daily needs items.
Although supermarkets assist customers in finding products at one place, they also have a negative impact on the small-scale businesses. Big stores sell their items on offers and discounts which attracts people away from these local shops. Consequently, small shops may struggle to compete with them because they often lack large profit margins and can not offer such big discounts. Nevertheless, I believe this drawback is relatively minor compared with the broader benefits that supermarkets provide to consumers and the economy.
To summarize the discussed points, although large supermarkets can negatively affect small businesses, I believe their benefits, particularly greater consumer convenience and economic opportunities, outweigh these drawbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the availability of global food in supermarkets is a positive development. The main ideas—convenience for consumers and economic growth versus the negative impact on small businesses—are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about 'economic growth' is mentioned but not sufficiently explained or supported with robust evidence. The argument regarding small businesses is better developed, but the overall response lacks the depth required for a higher band score. The conclusion effectively restates the position, but the essay would benefit from more detailed examples and a more thorough exploration of the implications of global food trade.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'For instance', 'Although', and 'Consequently' are used to link sentences and ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the idea of 'global food' and the specific example of 'LuLu hypermarket' could be more smoothly integrated to better support the central argument regarding international retail.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'retail market', 'international retail chain', and 'small-scale businesses'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'increase customer spreading' (which is unclear) and 'hunting their daily needs items' (which is unnatural). To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more precise collocations and a wider variety of sophisticated vocabulary related to global trade and economic impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Supermarkets provide customers a convinient place' (missing preposition 'with'), 'foreginers' (spelling error), and 'can not offer such big discounts' (informal phrasing). Punctuation is generally correct, but the control over complex structures is inconsistent. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of minor errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and more accurate preposition usage would improve the overall quality.
