Student answer (Band 6.5)
In many countries nowadays, consumers can go to supermarket and buy food products from all over he world. Although this trend may have some negative effects on the environment and local farmers, I believe it is a largely a positive development because it provides greater choices for consumers and creates economic opportunities for producers.
One major advantage is that people have access to a wider variety of food throughout the year. Consumers can purchase the products that cannot be grown locally due to differences in climate and geography, such as tropical fruits exotic spices and international ingredients. This not only improves the quality and diversity of people's diets but also allows them to experience different cultures through food. Furthermore, imported food increases competition among producers, which often leads to better quality products and more affordable prices.
Another positive aspect is the economic benefit generated by international food trade. Farmers and food companies can export their products to overseas markets, increasing their income and creating employment opportunities. While transporting food over long distances can contribute to environmental problems and imported products may challenge local farmers, these issues can be addressed through sustainable transport methods and government support for domestic agriculture.
In conclusion, despite some environmental and economic concerns, I believe that the availability of food from around the world in supermarkets is a positive development because it offers consumers greater choice and promotes economic growth thorough global trade.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that the development is positive. The ideas are relevant and supported by logical arguments regarding consumer choice and economic benefits. However, the response is 13 words under the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While the arguments are well-developed, the lack of sufficient length prevents a higher band score. To improve, you should expand on your examples, perhaps by providing a specific real-world scenario or a more detailed explanation of the environmental mitigation strategies mentioned in the third paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Another positive aspect', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to link ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. The flow of the argument is easy to follow, and the relationship between the ideas is clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. You demonstrate the ability to use topic-specific terms like 'international food trade', 'sustainable transport methods', and 'domestic agriculture'. There are a few minor errors, such as 'largely a positive' (should be 'a largely positive') and 'thorough' (should be 'through'). While the range is adequate, it lacks the more sophisticated, less common lexical items that would push the score into the 8.0 range. Focusing on more precise collocations and varied academic vocabulary would enhance your lexical profile.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are clear and error-free, though there are some minor slips, such as 'go to supermarket' (missing article 'a') and 'all over he world' (typo). These errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. The control of punctuation is generally good. To reach a higher band, ensure you proofread for small articles and typos, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice constructions, to demonstrate greater flexibility.
